Tooele is a town in Utah that is located in Tooele County. Tooele, Utah is just west of Salt Lake City and is one of the smaller bedroom communities of Salt Lake City. Originally the valley was used as a major feeding ground for cattle owners from the Utah Valley. The first white settlers took residence in the year 1849. First, they built a sawmill in the town and they called the city “E.T. city.” The name came from an LDS leader named ET Benson. The town was founded in 1850 and it was called “Tuilla,” which seems closer to the way you would pronounce it. Its current spelling is often mispronounced. The western part of Tooele County is covered by The Great Salt Lake Desert and the other half is made up of the outer cities of Salt Lake City. In 2008 Tooele County was reported as having the highest job growth since 2000 when compared to all the US counties. The population reached 58,218 at the 2010 census and today Tooele serves as an affordable place to live for those seeking a smaller community. The city of Tooele offers a smaller town feel which is hard to find in the Salt Lake Valley. It offers a slower pace and at the same time giving residents the convenience of living near Salt Lake City. The drive from Tooele is only 45 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City which makes it a convenient place to live. The town offers museums, rich history, recreational activities including a motor cross arena and seasonal events at the Deseret Peak Conference that you’ll want to experience. It’s definitely a town you’ll want to check out and soak up the local atmosphere.
